A creature that goes into impending doom with a war-song that all but guarantees its imminent demise.
Logic and evolutionary common sense tells me that a stealth approach would work best for a mozzie. Instead, it swoops in for its meal, heralding its war cry with casual disregard for the fact that this death lament could be its last.
But here is the interesting thing about mosquitoes. Its impact. One hungry mosquito in your darkened room will give you a night of misery – such is its impact.
So when people tell me that something is not working for them in the workplace and that they can’t make a change because they are just one person, I remind them of the impact of one mosquito. Then I ask them to reflect on all the people who started off as one person taking a stand or asking for a change – before their convictions started a movement. Gandhi was one person. As was Madiba. And Marie Curie. And Zenobia. You get the picture.
Therefore people – go hard for the change you want to see in the workplace. Back yourself. Believe in you.
By the way – I am not glorifying a vector of diseases. Mosquitoes also happen to be a food source for entire ecosystems.
All hail the mighty mosquito!
