I’m baffled. Where has the trust gone?

Friends, I’m baffled. I’m looking around me, and I’m seeing behaviors that I just don’t understand.

When did we lose trust in each other? Most crucially, when did we lose trust in people that we are supposed to trust the most?

How is it that we have complete trust in strangers – but not in the people who are there to help us succeed?

So, we completely trust all the other drivers on the road that they will follow the rules and not cause us to have an accident. We put our lives in the hands of strangers.

But meanwhile:

  • we don’t share our phone passwords with our spouses.
  • we don’t have a joint bank account with our spouses and have instead ‘my money’ and ‘his/her money.’
  • in the workplace, we want to see our employees in the building because if we see them, we know they are working.
  • at work, we want to see medical certificates for anyone taking longer than 2 days of sick leave – even though it’s going to cost $120 for an appointment – if you can get one the same week.

Friends – really? Is this the world we are now living in? When did this happen? And why is it happening on my watch? I have zero interest in my kids living in this type of world. Something needs to change. Can someone please tell me what this something is – so I can move from befuddlement to … hopefully action?
