The impact of a small, yet perfectly formed idea.

If you are a people leader and your people are badgering you for a promotion, pick up a copy of Promotions are SO Yesterday by Julie Winkle Giulioni. Here you will learn practical insights that will shift your thinking. πŸ€”

Now I have been fortunate enough to have had conversations with Julie – and recently, she came to speak to a small group of us. Here is one nugget she shared with us – and I have been pondering it since.

When you are looking for your next (growth)opportunity, or you want to take on a new task (maybe to raise your visibility), shift your thinking from:

πŸ’  How will this help me?

to

πŸ’ What will I learn from this?

This means that unless you are going to learn from this role/task, you probably need to rethink your approach.

And here I was simply thinking that more money/more responsibility/more power/more visibility was all I needed to consider.

So friends – if you are someone who is always doing the silent, invisible work of eg organising the team lunch or if you are angling for that senior role, maybe it’s time to consider whether where you will allocate your time is going to be a learning experience for you.

Thank you Julie – as an author, you probably don’t always get to hear the impact of your work – but I hope you know that on the other side of the world, a whole bunch of people have benefitted from your ideas. πŸ’• πŸ’
