Here in Australia, sometimes when people talk about some of their problems, they are met with a “yeah, that’s a first world problem”.
This shuts down the conversation because it implies that the problem being discussed is so trivial, so banal that to even talk about it is to disrespect the people in the world with real issues.
Friends, if you ever catch yourself saying “first world problems” when someone is talking about their issues or challenges, stop it.
It’s disrespectful. This is a pseudo-intelligent riposte. People should be allowed to discuss their problems without someone DECIDING that the problem is not worth discussing.
For the record, there are some people who are whingers. This is Australian for people-who-COMPLAIN-all-the-time.
You have my permission to call them out for being whingers. No one likes whingers.
