Managers – what do the family members of your direct reports say about you?

I once watched a workplace video of a colleague whose kids were talking about what they did for Father’s Day.

One of the young kids referred to my colleague’s manager directly on camera and said ‘my dad works too hard, stop giving him so much work, Maggie’.

I wondered what conversations were taking place in that home. 😲

So friends, if you have direct reports, do you ever wonder what they are saying about you to their family? Do they speak highly of you, or do they think of you as the horrid monster who makes their loved one’s life miserable?

Something to think about. And change, if needed.
